CanLII, the Canadian Legal Information Institute’s new tool for Legal research. The Institute states:
Earlier this year, we announced the launch of new CanLII features to help improve your search experience.
Thanks to the wonderful work done by the Lexum team, we’ve added a cherry on top of the features launched earlier this year.
Now, there is a blue sidebar, or “heatmap”, on the right side of your screen to give you a quick view of where the juicy parts are in your case of interest. The more frequently a paragraph has been cited in subsequent cases, the darker the area will be. Also, if you hover your mouse over this sidebar, you will be able to see the paragraph and the number of citing documents. Clicking in the blue sidebar will automatically “warp” you to the proper paragraph, and an elegant blue highlight will temporarily appear to bring your attention to the paragraph you clicked on.
Using CCH Canadian Ltd. v. Law Society of Upper Canada, 2004 SCC 13 as an example, you’ll notice the sidebar on the right in shades of blue.
