PPL Digital Collections

PPL Digital Collections are locally stored and provide free, public access to the digitized and digital born collections of the Peace Palace Library. Please note that materials in copyright may have access restrictions. CONTENTdm is our digital collection management system, consisting of a server on which content is stored, a web-based content discovery interface and tools to upload and manage the content. PPL Digital Collections are continuously enriched with new content and new functionality so keep checking for updates and browse through our new collections.

The Library holds several unique and renowned collections, such as the Grotius collection and the Peace Movement collection. We present highlights of these collections in digital format: old and rare books, brochures, pamphlets, conference reports, newspaper clippings, letters and photographs. The Image collection holds unique posters, engravings, photographs, cartoons, portraits and maps referring to themes and subjects such as war, peace, pacifism and the Peace Palace. Recently, the Library has been scanning Scheldt River publications and is providing free access to these digital versions. The total amount of scanned pages is about 35.000!

In the near future we will create collections of materials that are freely available on the Internet, such as papers, reports from international lawyers, research institutes and the legal publications of intergovernmental organizations. The Library is also participating with LLMC Digital in the following digitization projects: 'The Impact of the First World War on the New World Order' and 'War Crimes of World War I'. Parts of our Image collection have been shared on Wikimedia Commons.
